Pinewood Lutheran Church
Thomas H. Fox, Pastor
Address & General Information
- Our Beliefs
- Today many Lutheran denominations liberally pick-and-choose
what's secularly popular. We do not! We stand by, for, and with
the ancient Apostolic Church in confessing God's Word to be inspired,
inerrant, and the only source for faith and life. We belong to the
Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS), and are in joint fellowship
with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran
Synod (WELS).

- Building & Facilities
-
The
church building was built in 1976, using the exposed beams, the pews,
and other features from the congregation's previous church building
in Cambridge (see History).
Pinewood Lutheran Church has an historic church bell
that is still rung every Sunday. An apprentice of Paul Revere, Henry
Hooper, cast it in 1846. The church has named the bell "Moses."

- History
- The congregation was organized in 1884. Prior to that
time, a group of Norwegian Lutherans in the Boston area were served
periodically by pastors from New York City and Portland. The first Church
building was constructed in 1889 in Roxbury, where the congregation
was known as the Boston Norwegian Lutheran Church. In 1936, the
Roxbury church building was sold and the congregation relocated to Cambridge
under the name Harvard Street Lutheran Church. In 1976, the congregation
relocated again to the present building. When the building was dedicated,
the congregation became known as Pinewood Lutheran Church.
